Publication & Research Project

The first litter registered to the Tirlta prefix was whelped in 1982. The total number of litters bred has not been large, nor have I, personally, promoted my prefix in the show ring. My interest is in breeding, not exhibiting, dogs. My aim is to produce sound, healthy dogs, who will give pleasure to whoever owns them. Others have exhibited ACDs of my breeding, in the show ring and in obedience trials. My thanks to them, and my congratulations on their successes.

The history of the Australian Cattle Dog has been poorly documented and much essential information has been lost. My breed history project is directed towards capturing what ever data remain. The book, A DOG CALLED BLUE, was completed in June 2003 and published in October 2003.

In the Australian Aboriginal Dreaming, the elders of a Central Australian tribe promised Tirlta a young girl in marriage. She had different ideas and fled to another tribe. Tirlta's jealous revenge was bloody. The spirits were displeased, however, and brought about Tirlta's own death. The 'Flowers of Blood', the Sturt's Desert Pea, grew from the blood and black eyes of Tirlta's victims.
